“Neither do I condemn you; go, and from now on sin no more.”

“Neither do I condemn you; go, and from now on sin no more.”

📖 Summary of John Chapter 8

John 8 opens with the well-known story of the woman caught in adultery. The scribes and Pharisees drag her before Jesus, hoping to trap Him—asking if she should be stoned according to the Law of Moses. Instead of answering right away, Jesus stoops down and writes on the ground with His finger. When pressed, He stands and replies, “Let him who is without sin among you be the first to throw a stone at her.” One by one, her accusers slip away, until only Jesus and the woman remain. He tells her, “Neither do I condemn you; go, and from now on sin no more.”

The chapter continues with Jesus declaring, “I am the light of the world. Whoever follows me will not walk in darkness, but will have the light of life.” This leads to sharp disputes with the Pharisees, who question His authority, testimony, and origins. Jesus explains that His Father bears witness to Him, and that if they knew the Father, they would also know Him.

He warns that those who do not believe in Him will die in their sins. Many struggle to understand His words, but some believe. Jesus emphasizes that true freedom is found only in Him: “If you abide in my word, you are truly my disciples, and you will know the truth, and the truth will set you free.”

The Pharisees insist they are children of Abraham, but Jesus challenges them, saying their actions prove otherwise. He reveals that their true father is the devil, because they seek to kill Him and reject God’s truth.

The chapter climaxes with Jesus’ bold declaration: “Before Abraham was, I am.” Recognizing this as a claim to divinity, the Jews pick up stones to kill Him, but Jesus slips away unharmed.
