After judgment is complete and evil is defeated, John sees the most glorious vision of all — a new heaven and a new earth. The old has passed away, and God Himself dwells among His redeemed people forever.

This chapter is the fulfillment of every promise — the moment creation is restored to its original perfection and God’s Kingdom reigns eternally.

🌅 1. A New Heaven and a New Earth (verses 1–2)

“Now I saw a new heaven and a new earth, for the first heaven and the first earth had passed away.”

John witnesses a complete renewal — not just repaired, but entirely new.
All traces of sin, death, and sorrow are gone.
Then he sees the holy city, New Jerusalem, descending from heaven, prepared as a bride adorned for her husband — radiant, pure, and eternal.

This is the home God has prepared for His people — the perfect union of heaven and earth.

A loud voice declares:

“Behold, the tabernacle of God is with men, and He will dwell with them.”

God Himself lives among His people — no more separation, no more temple, no more veil.

The One seated on the throne says, “Behold, I make all things new.”

This is the heart of God — not to destroy, but to restore.

Jesus speaks, saying:

“It is done! I am the Alpha and the Omega, the Beginning and the End. I will give of the fountain of the water of life freely to him who thirsts.”

Salvation is complete. Redemption is finished.
All who overcame through faith inherit all things.
But those who rejected God — the unbelieving, corrupt, and idolatrous — face eternal separation in the lake of fire.

This distinction is final: eternal life or eternal loss.

An angel shows John the breathtaking city — the New Jerusalem, shining with the glory of God.

• Its brilliance is like jasper and crystal.

• The walls are adorned with precious stones.

• The gates are twelve pearls, each gate named for a tribe of Israel.

• The foundations bear the names of the twelve apostles.

• There is no temple — for the Lord God Almighty and the Lamb are its temple.

There is no sun or moon — the glory of God illuminates it, and the Lamb is its light.
The nations walk in that light, and the gates are never shut — because there is no night there.

The Lamb Worthy to Open the Scroll: Revelation Chapter 5 Explained

Revelation Chapter 5 continues John’s vision of the heavenly throne room and reveals one of the most powerful moments in all of Scripture — the unveiling of the Lamb who alone is worthy to open the scroll.

After beholding the majesty of God’s throne in Chapter 4, John now sees a scroll in the right hand of Him who sits on the throne. The scroll is sealed with seven seals — symbolizing God’s complete and perfect plan for the redemption and judgment of the world.

A mighty angel proclaims in a loud voice, “Who is worthy to open the scroll and to loose its seals?” But no one in heaven, on earth, or under the earth is found worthy. John begins to weep bitterly, for no one is able to open the scroll — until one of the elders comforts him, saying, “Do not weep. Behold, the Lion of the tribe of Judah, the Root of David, has prevailed to open the scroll and to loose its seven seals.”

John then looks and sees a Lamb as though it had been slain, standing in the midst of the throne and the four living creatures. This Lamb — bearing the marks of sacrifice — represents Jesus Christ, the Redeemer who gave His life for the salvation of mankind. The seven horns and seven eyes of the Lamb symbolize complete power and perfect wisdom, the fullness of the Holy Spirit sent into all the earth.

When the Lamb takes the scroll, heaven erupts in worship. The four living creatures and the twenty-four elders fall down before the Lamb, each holding a harp and golden bowls full of incense — representing the prayers of the saints. They sing a new song:

“You are worthy to take the scroll, and to open its seals;
For You were slain, and have redeemed us to God by Your blood
Out of every tribe and tongue and people and nation.”

Countless angels then join in, proclaiming with loud voices,

“Worthy is the Lamb who was slain to receive power and riches and wisdom,
And strength and honor and glory and blessing!”

Finally, every creature in heaven, on earth, under the earth, and in the sea echoes this praise — an explosion of worship declaring the eternal worthiness of the Lamb of God.

This chapter reveals a critical truth: Jesus Christ alone is worthy to unfold God’s divine plan, for He conquered sin and death through His sacrifice. The scroll represents God’s final redemption of creation, and the Lamb’s authority to open it demonstrates that history is under His control.

Revelation Chapter 5 shows us that the destiny of the world is not in human hands — it rests securely in the hands of the One who was slain and now lives forevermore.
