“Once Blind, Now I See – The Powerful Miracle of Jesus in John 9”
π Summary of John Chapter 9
In John 9, Jesus encounters a man who has been blind from birth. His disciples ask whether the man’s blindness was caused by his own sin or his parents’ sin. Jesus responds that it was neither, but rather that the works of God might be revealed in him.
Jesus spits on the ground, makes mud with His saliva, and rubs it on the man’s eyes. He then tells the man to wash in the Pool of Siloam. The man obeys and comes back seeing.
This miracle astonishes his neighbors, but it also creates controversy. The Pharisees investigate, questioning the healed man and his parents. Some Pharisees argue Jesus cannot be from God since He healed on the Sabbath, while others marvel at the miracle.
The healed man boldly testifies that Jesus opened his eyes, concluding, “If this man were not from God, He could do nothing.” The Pharisees, angered by his testimony, cast him out of the synagogue.
Later, Jesus finds him and reveals Himself as the Son of Man. The man believes and worships Him. Jesus then declares His mission: to bring sight to the blind and expose the blindness of those who think they see.
