John Chapter 10 – The Good Shepherd Who Lays Down His Life

John Chapter 10 – The Good Shepherd Who Lays Down His Life

Summary:
John Chapter 10 begins with Jesus describing Himself as the Good Shepherd. He calls His sheep by name, leads them to safety, and lays down His life for them—unlike false shepherds or hired hands who abandon the sheep. He also reveals that He is the gate, through which all who enter will find life, protection, and abundance.

Starting at verse 22, during the Feast of Dedication in Jerusalem, Jesus is confronted by the Jews who demand a direct answer: “If you are the Christ, tell us plainly.” Jesus responds by pointing to His works as proof of His identity. He declares that His sheep hear His voice, He gives them eternal life, and no one can snatch them from His hand. He then makes the bold and unmistakable claim: “I and the Father are one.” This statement enrages the religious leaders, who accuse Him of blasphemy because He claims to be the Son of God. Yet Jesus insists that His works testify of His divine mission and unity with the Father.

This chapter powerfully presents both the tender care of Jesus as the Good Shepherd and the uncompromising truth of His deity, calling all to recognize Him as Savior and Lord.
