📖 Summary of John Chapter 11
In John 11, Jesus receives word that His beloved friend Lazarus is sick. Though He delays His arrival, He explains to His disciples that this sickness will serve to glorify God. By the time Jesus reaches Bethany, Lazarus has already been in the tomb four days.
Martha meets Jesus and declares her faith that God will give Him whatever He asks, and Jesus responds with one of the greatest declarations in Scripture: “I am the resurrection and the life. Whoever believes in me, though he die, yet shall he live.”
Moved with compassion, Jesus goes to the tomb, prays, and calls out, “Lazarus, come forth!” To the amazement of all, Lazarus emerges alive, still wrapped in grave clothes.
This miracle leads many to believe in Jesus, but it also heightens the opposition of the Pharisees, who begin plotting His death. John 11 beautifully foreshadows Jesus’ own resurrection, affirming His divine power over life and death.
What an amazing chapter—Jesus proves He is the Resurrection and the Life by raising Lazarus from the dead!
