John 21: Jesus Restores Peter and Calls Us to Feed His Sheep
📖 John Chapter 21 closes the Gospel with one of the most tender and powerful encounters between Jesus and His disciples. After the miraculous catch of fish, Jesus restores Peter with the question, “Do you love Me?” and gives him the charge to “Feed My sheep.” This chapter reminds believers of Christ’s forgiveness, restoration, and mission to shepherd His people.
📘 Summary of John 21
John 21 recounts the resurrected Jesus appearing to His disciples by the Sea of Galilee. After a night of failed fishing, Jesus tells them to cast their nets on the right side of the boat, resulting in a miraculous catch of 153 fish. Recognizing the Lord, Peter jumps into the water to meet Him.
On shore, Jesus prepares breakfast for His disciples and engages Peter in a deeply personal dialogue. Three times, He asks Peter, “Do you love Me?”—restoring Peter after his three denials. With each response, Jesus commissions Peter: “Feed My lambs… Tend My sheep… Feed My sheep.”
This chapter emphasizes forgiveness, restoration, and responsibility. Jesus not only redeems Peter but entrusts him with the care of His flock. The Gospel concludes with John affirming the truth of his testimony and declaring that the world could not contain the books if all of Jesus’ works were written down.
John 21 shows us that no failure is final when Jesus restores us—He calls us to love Him and care for His people. ✝️
