Revelation 1 – The Vision of the Risen Christ Among the Lampstands

Revelation 1 – The Vision of the Risen Christ Among the Lampstands

📖 In Revelation Chapter 1, John receives a vision of Jesus Christ in His divine glory—standing among seven golden lampstands, holding seven stars, with eyes like fire, feet like refined brass, and a voice like many waters. This chapter reveals Jesus as the Alpha and the Omega, commissioning John to write to the seven churches of Asia.

📝 Summary

Revelation 1 opens with a prologue declaring the book to be the revelation of Jesus Christ, given to John through an angel to show God’s servants what must soon take place. John greets the seven churches in Asia with grace and peace, proclaiming Jesus as the faithful witness, the firstborn from the dead, and ruler of the kings of the earth.

While on the island of Patmos, John hears a loud voice like a trumpet instructing him to write what he sees and send it to the seven churches. Turning to see the voice, John beholds the glorified Christ: clothed in a long robe with a golden sash, His hair white like wool, His eyes blazing like fire, His feet glowing like bronze, His voice like rushing waters. In His right hand are seven stars, a sharp two-edged sword comes from His mouth, and His face shines like the sun.

John falls at His feet as though dead, but Jesus lays His hand on him, declaring: “Do not be afraid; I am the First and the Last. I am He who lives, and was dead, and behold, I am alive forevermore.” Jesus commissions John to write the things he has seen, the things that are, and the things which will take place. The mystery of the seven stars and seven golden lampstands is revealed: the stars are the angels of the churches, and the lampstands are the seven churches.
