THE NEW YOU IS POSSIBLE--The Spiritual Architecture of a Personality Transplant - by John Barnett

THE NEW YOU IS POSSIBLE--The Spiritual Architecture of a Personality Transplant - by John Barnett

Do you ever feel trapped by your own toxic patterns—your persistent bad attitudes, old habits, or a lingering spiritual numbness that religious routines alone cannot seem to cure? It is easy to settle for simply knowing about Jesus, running on the dry fuel of doctrine while secretly wondering if your faith has ever truly, deeply changed you on the inside.

In this life-revolutionizing class, you will undergo a radical spiritual transformation by moving beyond mere intellectual belief to experience the supernatural reshaping of your soul. You will discover that the gospel is far more than just having your past wrongs forgiven; it is a twofold miracle in which Jesus not only bears your sins on the cross but also actively clothes you in His perfect righteousness. This study challenges you to reject the false comfort of merely "believing good doctrine" without knowing the Savior. Instead, you will learn to invite Christ to take up residence in your heart, allowing Him to transform your deepest appetites, attitudes, and daily actions from the inside out.

This supernatural "personality transplant" infuses your life with a triumphant, unshakeable hope. As the shadow of the coming Tribulation grows closer and we look through the door of the grave, you do not have to live in fear. You will find absolute, restful security in the promise that your eternal destiny does not depend on your own fluctuating goodness, but entirely on His unearned grace. By cultivating a sensitive heart that refuses to comfortably tolerate sin, you will enjoy the vibrant daily assurance of a new heart and a new spirit.

  1. This is a powerful and encouraging teaching from Dr. John Barnett because it reminds us that no believer is permanently trapped by his past, upbringing, temperament, habits, or former way of life.

God does not merely want to improve the old person—He wants the life and character of Jesus Christ to be increasingly displayed through us. As Paul declared, “I have been crucified with Christ; it is no longer I who live, but Christ lives in me” (Galatians 2:20).

What Dr. Barnett calls a “personality transplant” is the transforming work of the Holy Spirit. As we surrender our minds, bodies, desires, words, and reactions to Christ, the fruit of the Spirit—love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness, and self-control—begins to replace the old patterns of the flesh.

This is not an instant promise that every struggle will disappear. Neither is it a self-help program in which we remake ourselves through determination. It is the lifelong work of sanctification as we repeatedly say no to sin, yield ourselves to God, renew our minds through His Word, and allow Christ to live through us.

Perhaps you have said, “That is simply the way I am.” But the wonderful message of the gospel is that you do not have to remain the person you once were. In Christ, the new you really is possible—not through your own strength, but through the transforming power of the Holy Spirit.

The question is not merely, “What kind of personality do I have?” The more important question is, “How much of the personality of Jesus Christ can others see developing in me?”
