What Must I Do To Be Saved?
There is no more important question that any person could ever ask than this:
“What must I do to be saved?”
The Bible tells us in Acts of the Apostles that when the Philippian jailer realized the power of God and the condition of his soul, he cried out to Paul and Silas:
“Sirs, what must I do to be saved?”
— Acts 16:30
Their answer was simple and direct:
“Believe on the Lord Jesus Christ, and you will be saved...”
— Acts 16:31
Salvation is not found in religion, church membership, good works, money, or human effort. Salvation is found only in Jesus Christ — the Son of God who died for our sins and rose again from the dead.
On the Day of Pentecost, after Simon Peter preached under the power of the Holy Spirit, the people were deeply convicted in their hearts and cried out:
“Men and brethren, what shall we do?”
— Acts 2:37
Peter answered them:
“Repent, and let every one of you be baptized in the name of Jesus Christ for the remission of sins...”
— Acts 2:38
Repentance means more than simply feeling sorry. It means turning away from sin and turning toward God with a sincere heart. It is surrendering our lives to Jesus Christ and desiring Him above everything else this world offers.
The wonderful promise of God is found in Acts of the Apostles 2:21:
“And it shall come to pass
That whoever calls on the name of the Lord
Shall be saved.”
That promise is still true today.
No matter your past…
No matter your failures…
No matter how far away from God you may feel…
Jesus Christ still saves those who come to Him by faith.
We are living in serious times, and many hearts are searching for peace, hope, and assurance. The answer is not found in this world — it is found in Jesus Christ alone.
Conclusion
Salvation is not merely repeating a prayer or having an emotional experience.
Salvation is wanting Jesus more than my sin.
It is realizing that nothing in this world can compare to knowing Him, following Him, and receiving the eternal life that only He can give.
Today, if God is speaking to your heart, do not ignore His voice. Call upon the Lord Jesus while there is still time, and trust Him as your Savior and Lord.
“For whoever calls on the name of the Lord shall be saved.”
— Acts 2:21 (NKJV)
Suggested Closing Prayer
“Lord Jesus, I know that I am a sinner and that I need Your forgiveness. I believe You died for my sins and rose again from the dead. Today I turn to You in repentance and ask You to come into my life and save me. I place my faith and trust in You alone. Thank You for Your mercy, grace, and promise of eternal life. Amen.”
